Chrome extension · 100% on-device

Copy text from anything you can see.

Draw a box over any part of a page — an image, a video frame, a chart, a page that blocks selection — and the text inside is recognized on your machine and copied to your clipboard. Nothing is uploaded. Ever.

meeting-invite.png — text you can see but can't select

Meeting ID: 824 5501 · Passcode: 7wK2fx ✓ Copied

Recognized on-device in a few hundred milliseconds, copied automatically. The line above is real text — try selecting it.

How it works

Three seconds from pixels to clipboard

STEP 1

Press the shortcut

Alt+Shift+S on Windows, S on Mac — or click the toolbar icon.

STEP 2

Drag over the text

Any image, video frame, diagram, or page that won't let you select. If you can see it, you can grab it.

STEP 3

Paste anywhere

The text is recognized on your device and already on your clipboard. Edit it in the overlay if you want.

Features

A complete OCR toolkit, no cloud attached

Snap & copy

Draw a box over anything visible. The text lands on your clipboard before the overlay closes.

Right-click any image

"Extract text from image" straight from the context menu — no screenshot needed.

Screenshot a table → spreadsheet

Capture any table you can see. Rows and columns are rebuilt on-device — copy as TSV or export to Excel / CSV.

Select text inside images

After a scan, the words in a picture become selectable in place — like Live Text, right in your browser.

Annotate before you share

Box, arrow, highlight or add text right on the capture — then mosaic over anything private. Copy or download as PNG.

50+ languages, one engine

Chinese, English, Japanese and 46 more recognized by a single bundled model. No language packs to manage.

PROBatch a whole page

Scan every image on a page and OCR up to 100 of them in one run, queued and resumable.

PROExport your results

TXT for notes, CSV for spreadsheets, or a ZIP that bundles the original images with their text.

History that stays home

Recent captures are saved in your browser — never on a server. Review, copy, or clear them anytime.

Privacy

Your screen never leaves your machine.

The OCR engine ships inside the extension and runs in your browser via WebAssembly. Turn off Wi-Fi — screenshot OCR keeps working. No accounts, no analytics, and your captures never touch a server.

FAQ

Questions, answered plainly

Is my screen really never uploaded?

Really. The recognition model (about 37 MB) is packaged inside the extension and runs in your browser — screenshot OCR works with your network disconnected. There is no telemetry, no crash reporting, and no analytics; nothing you capture is ever sent anywhere. The one time the extension touches the network is when batch OCR fetches images from the page's own site with your permission — and those are still recognized on your device.

Which languages can it read?

One bundled engine covers 50+ languages: Chinese (simplified and traditional), English, Japanese, and 46 Latin-script languages like Spanish, French, German, and Portuguese — with no language packs to download or switch.

Why does it ask for the permissions it does?

Each permission maps to one visible feature: capturing the tab you invoke it on, showing the selection overlay, the right-click menu, and saving history in local storage. The privacy policy lists every permission and exactly what it is used for.

What does Pro cost?

Pro is a one-time purchase of $9.99 — no subscription, no recurring charges. Your license key is verified on your device and works offline.

Where is my history stored?

In your browser's local extension storage, on your computer. Nothing syncs to any server. You can review or clear it from the History page at any time, and uninstalling the extension removes it completely.

When can I install it?

Right now — ShotMagic is live on the Chrome Web Store. Installing is free. If you bought Pro before launch, your license key is in your email and never expires — just activate it once you install.

I bought Pro but didn't get my key

Your key is emailed right after checkout — check your spam folder too. You can also retrieve it anytime from the buyer portal using your purchase email.
